KING is thrilled to announce that two new designs have been declared winners at the 2021 Good Design Awards Week. Both Fleur collection and the Vertio Wall System have been recognised in the category of product design at Australia's peak international design awards.
David Hardwick, Head of Product Design at KING, credited the in-house design team’s resilience and continued commitment to quality throughout the challenging times of the pandemic:
"It’s a testament to the team’s creative talent and passion to have developed these incredible products during this period and an honour to have them recognised by the Good Design Awards.”

Dating back to 1958, the Good Design Awards is the country's oldest and most prestigious international awards recognised as the highest honour for design and innovation in Australia.
The 2021 Good Design Awards attracted a record number of submissions, with 933 design projects evaluated by more than 70 Australian and international Jurors, including designers, engineers, architects and thought leaders.
Projects recognised with an Australian Good Design Award demonstrate excellence in professional design and highlight the impact a design-led approach has on business success and social and environmental outcomes.
Fleur embodies the KING commitment to creating furniture that improves people's lives. The brief was to design a comfortable sofa that provides head support and looks elegant, three elements that are incredibly difficult to align.
Fleur unites a timeless silhouette with ingenious folding backrests and adjustable arms, transforming from low profile to high profile with a single movement, offering two distinct styles in one design.
The Good Design Awards Jury commented:
"Fleur feels like a friendly and soft step away from the usual look and feel for King. The flexibility of the backrest system does not look like the typical "flexible" sofa back, but rather a stunning collection of sofas and chairs that exude comfort from a clean and elegant form. The opening arms seem so inviting, and the footrests are a fantastic addition."
A true statement of modern style, Fleur collection includes the sofa in various sizes, an ottoman in three sizes, and a swivel lounge chair.
The brief for the Vertio Wall System called for a flexible system with components that could be combined and reconfigured to work well in both expansive and compact living spaces.
The inspiration for the design came from a member of the KING design team who couldn't fit his favourite bookshelf into his new home because it was designed as one solid unit.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented:
“Vertio is a beautifully elegant solution for both a room divider and shelving. The refined design is simple with paired back and well resolved details that tie in with a contemporary home environment.”
The Vertio Wall System can be wall-mounted or compression mounted between the floor and ceiling. Both mounting options can be placed against the wall, and the floor to ceiling mount can also be used as a room divider.
Each component is finished with meticulous detail. Refined shelves and cabinets are secured in place by sculpted shelf brackets. Twin-door and fold-down cabinets feature a waterfall detail, with the timber grain flowing seamlessly down each side. The natural warmth of the premium timber finish contrasts effortlessly with powder coated metal components.
