The Room Project by Jeffrey Alan Marks

King Living has paired with world-renowned interior designer, Jeffrey Alan Marks to exclusively offer Oceanview; a range of classic fabrics firmly embedded in a coastal living aesthetic. Inspired by glistening waves under a moon-lit sky, the new collection artfully fuses relaxed neutrals and blues with seaside patterns and motifs.

“I wanted a kind of…silver to come through in a rustic way. You see this iridescence which you get from the glowing water with the right amount of light."

Jeffrey Alan Marks

The founder of interior design firm JAM, Jeffrey Alan Marks learned his craft in the UK, which has resulted in a style which fuses relaxed West-Coast vibes with a subtle British sensibility. Jeffrey’s understanding of creating a space which is intimate and relaxed is unlike many interior designers, as he seeks to harmonise modern patterns and vibrant colour with classic design. The result? A timeless, serene design aesthetic.

True to the laid-back, beachy feel which Santa Monica is so well known for, the Oceanview palette enhances the spaces within the beachside home located on Sydney’s north shore. For Jeffrey, Australia has been a great inspiration, remarking that Australian interior design is “brave” for its exploration of colour. His choice of a range of sea tones, as well as slate greys and seafoam white create a luxuriously undone look. Jeffrey’s choice of JAM Shaper fabric, a gorgeous chenille yarn, is the perfect canvas for styling his vibrant cushions. The look is grounded by the use of dark timbers which add sophistication and fullness to the space. The Aspen Coffee Table in Smoked Oak is the perfect counterbalance to the light in the room; its slender, crossed legs and generous size are a complement to any living area.

In both fashion and lifestyle, colour is taking centre stage, so Jeffrey’s choice of Panama cushions in Birdview, Oceanway, Whitetop and Vicente all lend themselves beautifully to this trend. Birdview nestles itself within a variation of blues, broken up with alabaster to form a striking pattern. This signature fabric is joined by Oceanway, featuring marine shells - affectionately termed “beachcombers.” Vicente exudes a coastal charm, with its crisp white cover accentuating strips of embroidery in brilliant blues and silvers. Offering a slightly more modern take are Whitetop and Intuitive, which both blend abstract texture and subtle metallic accents within a spectrum of blues. Whitetop specifically is quite special to Jeffrey, “it was my first watercolour that I did in Palm Beach when I was here last time…three years ago…”. Tie-in cushions in Hangten, Stance and Chromio provide wonderful balance with their neutral cream and grey tones.

Playing with light and colour outdoors, Jeffrey selected the Delta Circle Sofa in Malibu silver. Invitingly unique and extremely comfortable, its gently sloping back provides the perfect support when reclining in the afternoon sun. Scatter cushions from his fabrics range work beautifully against the neutral base, picking up natural light whilst injecting a pop of colour.

The interior and exterior spaces created by Jeffrey are playful, relaxed and light: the embodiment of his signature style. Jeffrey Alan Marks’ new luxe fabric collection Oceanview is available for purchase online and in King Living Showrooms.
